This tutorial shows you how to use multiple vector shapes, layer styles, and various tools to create a mobile phone design. It’s a nice design with multiple small details explained.
Start working by creating a new file (File>New) of 1280×1024 px and 72 dpi.
Then we should select the Rectangle Tool (U) to represent the background of the picture we’ll get on the final stage.
Set the next parameters for the made layer by making a mouse click on the layer we work with on the layers’ panel. Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Next we shall select the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) (radius 55 px) to draw the cell phone body. Then pressSHIFT button while using again the same tool with a radius of 2 px and this time to represent three prominences for the lateral buttons. Using the Add Anchior Point Tool, it’s possible to add one more top on the bottom part of the body for getting a correct shape. The layer’s color is #E4E5E6
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Inner Shadow
Blending Options>Inner Glow
Blending Options>Stroke
Gradient’s parameters:
Select the Rectangle Tool (U) to represent the screen’s zone, colroed with #E21E25
Press Alt button on the same layer while making a mouse click between the red layer and the layer belonging to the phone’s body (on the layers’ panel).
Next we shall apply the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) with a radius of 40 px to represent the next layer belonging to the cell phone’s body. Use again the Add Anchior Point Tool to insert one more top on the bottom part. Select the Convert Point Tool to make the appropriate corrections on the layer’s shape. Its color is#D1D3D4
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Stroke
Create the next layer belonging to the phone’s screen, applying this time the Rectangle Tool (U) too.
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Select the previous applied tool to continue representing the phone’s screen.

Gradient’s parameters:
Using by turn the Rectangle Tool (U) and the Pen Tool (P), it’s possible to draw the symbols of white color for the lateral buttons.
Select the Line Tool (U) to draw a line, dividing the buttons below the cell phone’s screen. The layer’s color is#909295
Select again the Line Tool (U) to draw this time a highlight of white color situated under the flatness.
Next we shall represent the joystick button, applying the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) (radius of 30 px). Then apply the Convert Point Tool to make the corrections on the element’s shape. The layer’s color is #E6E6E6
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Inner Glow
Blending Options>Stroke
Let’s represent now a kind of deeping on the joystick button, selecting the same Rounded Rectangle Tool (U)with a radius of 30 px.
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
On the next new layer we shall draw the inside part of the joystick button. This time we should use the sameRounded Rectangle Tool (U) with a radius of 10 px. The Convert Point Tool is helpful when making the appropriate corrections for the new element. The layer’s color is #D9DBDC
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Stroke
Make a copy of the last made layer and select Free Transform option to make the copy smaller, changing also the layer’s parameters:

Make a copy of the recently created layer and choose the Free Transform option to place the copy as it is shown below:
Now we shall represent the panel of the buttons containing the ciphers of the cell phone. In this case it’s necessary to use the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) (radius of 55 px). Using the Add Anchior Point Tool, we should insert a top on the bottom. Select again the Convert Point Tool to make the corrections on the elements’ shapes. This new layer should be situated under all the previous made layers of the cell phone.
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Inner Shadow
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Make a copy of the recently made layer and then select again Free Transform solution to make the copy smaller, changing the layer’s color on the white one, moving off the effects. This layer should be placed above the previous one, but under the others.
Make one more copy of the made layer and select once again the Free Transform option to minimize the copy a little.
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Make a copy of the earlier made white layer and choose the Free Transform option to make the copy smaller, placing it above the rest of the layers.
Make one more copy of the previous layer and then choose the Free Transform solution to make the copy smaller, placing it the same way indicated below:
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Gradient Overlay

Mark out the zone containing the buttons with the ciphers, applying the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) (radius of15 px). Insert by one top on the upper and on the bottom sides, choosing the Add Anchior Point Tool. TheConvert Point Tool is helpful for making the appropriate corrections on the new elements’ shapes.
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Stroke
Take again the Rectangle Tool (U) to represent the line limiting the horizontal buttons’ row. Apply again the Add Anchior Point Tool for introducing two couples of the tops and then select the Convert Point Tool to correct the line’s shape.
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Stroke
Make two copies of the layer containing the line and choose again the Free Transform option to place the copies as it is pictured below:
Applying the Rectangle Tool (U), try to draw two vertical lines, reserving the zone for each button. The lines’ color is #8B8D90

Make ten copies of the button’s layer and select then the Free Transform option to incline a little the buttons from the left side and the right one, placing the copies the same way represented next picture:
Make one more copy of the button’s layer. Select the Alt button and the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) (radiusof 5 px) to cut out the bottom part of the button the same way demonstrated below:
Insert the buttons’ numeration, keeping the demands from the table below:
On the next stage we have to introduce the alphabet on the buttons:
Insert the symbol from here - #
Applying the Line Tool (U) (width 1 px), it’s possible to represent the symbol *, which color is #414142.
Next we’ll insert the symbol + close to the previously drawn one - *
Using the Rectangle Tool (U), try to make the symbol representing the gap, colored with #5B5C5D. PressSHIFT button while using the same tool to add the protuberances on the left and right sides.
Let’s represent two more symbols applying the Custom Shape Tool (U) and the Line Tool (U) (width of 1 px), for representing the sound symbol and the Pen Tool (P) to indicate the pointer. The color is #414142 for both symbols.
The Free Transform option should change the shape of the sound symbol.
Now we shall draw the symbol indicating the voice mail. In this case we’ll use the Line Tool (U) (width of 1 px) to represent the horizontal lines and the Ellipse Tool (U) to introduce by one ring on the left and right sides. Press Alt button while applying the Rectangle Tool (U) to cut out the rings on the line’s level. The line’s color is#414142
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Stroke
Next we should combine in a group all the layers belonging to the cell phone (press Ctrl button to mark out the necessary layers and then hold on the left mouse’s button to take the accentuated layers on Create a new groupsolution). Make a copy of the newly made group. Press Ctrl button to mark out the group’s copy and pres Ctrl+E. Using the Free Transform option, turn over the last processed layer and place it lower than the cell phone.
Make a mouse click on the same layer on the bottom part of the layers’ panel on Add a Mask solution. Using theGradient Tool (G), try to dark out the reflection.
Finished!
